Hi all, i was diagnosed 2 years ago, and my 14 year old daughter has been complaining about achey knees. She does sports and has said a few times that her knees ache. I put a tubi bandage thing oin for her and she had an ibuprofen this morning. Tonight, about an hour ago, she got readsy for bed and her foot has swelled up. Her heel is sore, but she feels well. I am really upset. I started with "boggy" feet but i had swelling on the back of my hands and i felt really poorly. She feels well, but i'm worried she is starting with RA I wpould be really greatful for any advice. We have packed the car up as we are camping for the jubilee weekend :(

Not sure if I can help much - I've just been diagnosed with RA age 54. My daughter - now 17 - is very sporty too, and aches and pains, especially in the knees, have been a common feature of her growing up. I've put it down to "growing pains" - my son (19 and 6'3") also had a few when he was about 14. It seemed to pass after a few weeks and hasn't recurred. In my personal experience it's the tiredness that seems to be the real indicator of RA, so if your daughter feels well, then that's a good sign. Enjoy your camping Regards - Sylvia Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Hi Dawny, I think we all worry about our sons/daughters falling victim to RA, I know I do. I`m actually the first in our family to have it - going back a very long way, so I have no hereditory factor. However, I have a very sporty son who is always off climbing, kayaking, footballing , skiing etc. When he complained of pain and stiffness in his arm and shoulder I insisted he go to our GP. Because of the fact I have RA, the GP did blood tests, ordered a scan, just to check things out. Everything came back ok, so it was simply a strain, but if you are at all worried, perhaps your GP may do the same? Enjoy your camping trip, Kathleen x

Hi Dawny
That's one of my biggest fears that my daughters or grandchildren will develop RA. I do think that because of this, any ache or pain that they tell me about, my first thought is..............''Oh no, hope they aren't going to get it'' Only natural really when you think about it, any other mum /grandmother would put it down to something else.
Why not ring you specialist nurse after the Bank Holiday for a chat if you are really worried.
Hope you have a lovely time camping, pity the weather isn't like it was last weekend.
Take Care Paula x

Yes I agree too. Mine are also on their 20's my son often complains about sore wrists but he broke one wrist and hurt the other one when he was young. I've told him to make sure he gets it checked out. Good idea just to consult Dr or nurse after the holiday. Hope you have fun camping and don't get too wet. Mary
